Building Industry commitment

Highlights of my training and experience in the building industry:

1964   Apprentice carpenter and joiner in Dunedin.

1973   In business as a building contractor.

1985   Building Inspector – Nelson City Council.

1990   Promotion to Principal Building Control Officer — Nelson City Council.

Presentation of numerous seminars on all aspects of the new Building Act to Architects, Engineers, Builders, Contractors, Building owners, Solicitors, Valuers and Real-estate agents.

1995   Established independent building certification consultancy, Northbrook Ltd.
1995   Achieved Building Certifier approval.

1998   A growing reputation for reliability and cost effective service and continued growth necessitated re-positioning and re-branding into a full building services provider.  This has been completed under the name Building Approvals & Solutions Ltd with an extended range of expertise and services provided by an increasing number of associates.

Building ownership, management and construction is now more complicated than in the past.  Resource management and building code compliance is infinitely more complex.  This increasing complexity requires up to date expertise, which a specialist provider can supply.  The Building Code is performance based providing many options and opportunities for building owners, designers and developers who understand it.

Building Approvals & Solutions Ltd was a specialist provider having that understanding and expertise and provided cost-effective solutions across the whole area of building services. Mike can still assist in some aspects of building issues.

We are happy to discuss on the phone or at our office any aspects of our work through which we may be able to help you.

2015  Mike has retired and is spending time with model railway and miniature buildings as well as a few inspections while not catching butterflies.

Miniature buildings parts and details, scales 1:12 – 1:48 dolls house, model railway large scale (garden railway) through to N scale 1:160.
